Has the herb garden you have lovingly cared for produced more herbs than you could ever use, and have your family and friends all been well stocked?

Time to start up a side hustle! Homegrown dried herbs are very marketable. Prices will vary according to the type of herb and the size of package

Herbs are used both fresh and dried by professionals as well as home cooks and most of them prefer a home-grown herb to one that has been mass-produced.

You’ll want to set up a Facebook page and join as many Facebook Groups as you can (that relate to your side hustle). Be active in the Groups but don’t sell directly – you’ll let your bio and links sell for you. If you sell directly in a Facebook Group, you risk getting kicked out of it.

1.

Take a look at the different herbs that are your most prolific producers. These are the ones that always give you a nice surplus of dried herbs.

You’ll start your new side hustle herb business by offering these first. Start small and keep it boutique – remember, boutique sells at a premium.

2.

To package your herbs, you can sell them in resealable food storage bags, or you can even look online for inexpensive plastic containers.

You should also get a small food scale to weigh your herbs, so you can price them accordingly. To determine your pricing, check out some other sellers online.

Pick up some adhesive labels that you can print on your computer or even hand write. Be sure to label your herbs with the type of herb and its weight.

3.

Start advertising your herbs on your Facebook page or Etsy, people are doing more online shopping now, and also visit your local restaurants and small businesses and see if they would be interested in buying or selling your herbs.

Let local restaurant owners know that you provide fresh herbs, and make sure to bring some samples.

4.

As your herb business starts growing, you may need to increase the size of your herb garden to make sure you have a nice, steady supply. If you’re only growing your herbs outdoors,  consider starting an indoor herb garden, this will give you the ability to offer your herbs year round.

Starting your own business out of something you enjoy doing is always a great way to make extra money.

Of course, it will take a little time and effort, but before you know it, your herbs will be making professional and home cooks around the world, as well as the people who enjoy their meals, very happy.

Enjoy your herb garden and new herb business!
